What does a Site Reliability Engineer do?
The Site Reliability Engineer, Senior serves as a technical leader in the Application Site Reliability Department, and plays a key role in developing industry-leading systems. In this role, you will be responsible for the development and support of internal and external software systems that our Account Processing teams depend upon to deliver world-class financial technology to the banking industry. As a Site Reliability Engineer, you will have the opportunity to solve challenging problems using a wide variety of technologies.

This is a full-time position in a collaborative environment working with other skilled software professionals to operate reliable and secure software systems.

You are the kind of Person who:
Develops and operates systems that enable financial transactions at scale. Assists with the creation of error budgets, and monitors production systems for degradations in service. Standardizes, automates, develops, maintains, and tests software systems. Recommends and implements major changes to system operation.
Lead in the development of world-class software development toolchains
Lead in streamlining the operation of complex legacy systems with a focus on 24x7 availability
Assisting in the creation of and adherence to operational standards
Under limited direction: research, define, and complete additions and changes to financial systems
Under limited direction: analyze logs to resolve degradations and/or outages in services
Participate in strategic planning and technical discussions
Demonstrate the ability to translate ideas into running systems
Interact with internal and external clients to ensure that Fiserv’s services and monitoring exceed   expectations

Basic Qualifications for Consideration:

  • Minimum of 6+ years of experience required
  • Demonstrated ability to learn complex systems
  • Strong communication skills are essential
  • Experience with legacy systems is required
  • A successful candidate will find innovative, automated solutions to complex problems
    Additional Skills/Knowledge
  • Superior knowledge of systems thinking and design
  • Superior knowledge of scripting languages (PowerShell, Perl, Python, Bash, CL, WFL, etc.)
  • Superior knowledge of the Agile Methodology (Jira, Confluence, Git)
  • Strong knowledge of hardware and software defects and system reliability
  • Strong knowledge of DevOps (Ansible, Harness, Jenkins, Kubernetes, Kafka, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of a systems programming language (Rust, C#, C++, Java, COBOL, etc.)
  • Ability to interact with external and internal clients for data gathering and operational feedback
  • Strong writing skills are required
  • Performs other duties as required
  • Strong leadership skills are required
  • Experience with IBMi or Unisys MCP mainframe systems is beneficial
  • Travel Required Will be minimal. However, there may be business needs for travel (to client locations and other Fiserv locations) and hence some flexibility is expected.

Preferred qualifications for consideration:

  • A completed Bachelor’s Degree in STEM, or equivalent education, in a related discipline is preferred
  • A completed Master’s Degree or PhD in Computer Science is beneficial
  • Financial industry interest and experience is beneficial
