What does a Risk and Compliance Manager do?

This individual will work collaboratively with other members of CS RCC team and perform risk and compliance oversight activities within the Risk, Controls and Compliance (RCC) team supporting the Card Services business unit. This role is responsible for assessing how the business unit addresses (or will address) challenges / changes with internal and external standards, controls, and frameworks, while promoting consistency of approach and sharing of best practices in an effort to promulgate enterprise solutions to common issues.

As a Risk and Compliance Manager, you will:

  • Take ownership of, manage, and complete client due diligence requests for the Card Services business, including due diligence in high-risk markets, due diligence for non-financial institution prospective clients and their sponsor banks

  • Complete due diligence vetting; identify risks, enhanced vetting, and additional transaction processing or contractual controls where needed; document and report on results to key stakeholders and obtain management approvals.

  • Support the design, development, and implementation of the CDD program. Maintain due diligence program tools, forms, and documents (polices, procedures). Identify and communicate the need for additional tools where needed.

  • Conduct or participate in meetings with sales teams to forecast pipeline, and vetting needs. 

  • Track and log vetting requests and outcomes. Produce monthly analytics for due diligence requests received/fulfilled, including volumes, themes, risks, and summaries.

  • Maintain client vetting records.

  • Support the Senior Director with the High-risk markets program management and execution, including training / awareness of processes and requirements to the LOB, performing associated due diligence, drafting and maintaining applicable policies and maintaining the framework.

  • Facilitate New Business Initiatives Approval (NBIA) process including primary support for multiple product line NBIAs.

  • Communicate expectations to stakeholders and provides training support to enable successful completion of the process.

  • Responsible for stakeholder management throughout the process and facilitate information sharing across multiple teams to drive initiatives through the process to timely completion.

  • Assist in the development and administration of Compliance training for Card Services.

  • Assigns, monitors, and escalates training in adherence to the annual training schedule.

  • Support education and awareness for LOB partners on Risk & Compliance framework and program components. 

  • Assists in the development and administration of compliance training for Card Services

  • Contribute to the establishment and maintenance of policies and procedures to ensure applicable laws and regulatory requirements are met, and appropriate company standards are established.

  • Analyze applicable Enterprise and Card Services policies to understand impact to the LOB and guide the business by providing recommendations for implementation.

  • LOB Client Inquiry Management including managing client inquiries or requests, including client due diligence inquiries and requests received from the Client Oversight & Assurance (COA) team for LOB fulfillment.

  • Liaise and actively engage with the LOB and COA team to provide responses to clients.

  • Management of LOB specific documentation repositories and coordination with the COA team on client package updates.

  • Support activities related to the following product areas: Debit, Network, ATM Managed Services, and Fraud Risk Solutions, including Advisory, Issue Management, Operational Risk Events.

  • This role will also provide secondary support for Regulatory Research & Regulatory Compliance Requirements, Risk Assessments, Monitoring, Testing Support.

  • Other duties and special projects as required, including, LOB complaints, data review, analysis, reporting/metrics.

Qualifications for Consideration:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA, JD, CRCM, or related field certifications a plus.

  • 7+ years of regulatory and/or risk management experience, within the financial services industry; payments/fintech/service provider experience desired.

  • Knowledge of the organization, industry and relevant external forces, with a significant understanding of how regulatory agencies influence business operations within the financial services industry.

  • Knowledge and experience defining and applying compliance requirements, industry rules to technologies, data and business processes.

  • Experience performing risk and control assessments, functional mapping and identification of controls, control testing, and documentation/presentation of risk assessments and reports to key business partners, including executive leaders. 

  • Experience researching regulatory requirements and applying effectively to business processes, providing sound risk and compliance guidance, and partnering well.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal and negotiation skills.

  • Proven leadership skills and ability to motivate matrix teams to perform at peak standards.

  • Policy and process development experience; compliance training content development experience preferred.

  • Ability to operate in a fast paced, complex organization; interact and influence multiple stakeholders; creating a risk and compliance aware culture.

  • Succeeds in a fast-paced environment; adapts quickly to change; ability to manage multiple, complex initiatives; communicate and escalate as appropriate.
